Fix it fast
Plain answers to the problems people actually hit — installing, first launch, and connecting to the Hub. Tap a question to open it.
Installing on Windows
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”
That's Microsoft SmartScreen. It shows for apps whose installer isn't code-signed yet, and Maylyn's isn't — it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the file.
- Click More info (the small link under the message).
- Click Run anyway.
- Say Yes when Windows asks for permission — Maylyn installs for everyone on the computer.
Only do this for a file you downloaded from this site or our GitHub releases. To double-check it, compare its SHA-256 with checksums.sha256 — in PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\Maylyn_*_x64-setup.exe.
There's no “Run anyway” — it just says the app was blocked
That's Smart App Control, a Windows 11 feature that blocks unsigned apps outright, with no button to continue. Maylyn's installer isn't signed, so the only way past it is switching Smart App Control off:
- Open Windows Security → App & browser control.
- Open Smart App Control settings and choose Off.
- Run the installer again — you'll get the normal “Windows protected your PC” screen above.
Read the warning Windows shows before you switch it off: on some versions of Windows 11 it can't be turned back on without resetting the PC.
Microsoft Defender removed or quarantined the installer
- Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
- Find the Maylyn entry, open Actions and choose Allow or Restore.
- Download the installer again if it was deleted.
Please tell us which file was flagged, so we can report the false positive to Microsoft.
My browser blocked the download
Edge and Chrome warn about files that aren't downloaded often yet.
- Open the downloads list (Ctrl+J).
- On the Maylyn file, choose Keep (in Edge: … → Keep → Show more → Keep anyway).
Installing on a Mac
“Maylyn can't be opened because Apple cannot check it”
macOS shows this for apps that aren't notarized by Apple yet.
- Try to open Maylyn once, and close the message.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down and click Open Anyway next to the Maylyn message, then enter your password.
“Maylyn is damaged and can't be opened”
The file isn't damaged — macOS puts this label on unsigned apps downloaded from the internet. Move Maylyn into Applications first, then in Terminal run:
Open Maylyn again as normal.
Which Mac download do I need?
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it says Chip: Apple M…, take Apple Silicon. If it says Processor: Intel, take Intel.
Installing on Linux
The AppImage does nothing when I double-click it
It needs permission to run as a program.
- Right-click the file → Properties → Permissions, and tick Allow executing file as program.
- Or in a terminal:
chmod +x Maylyn_*.AppImage, then run it.
“dlopen(): error loading libfuse.so.2”
AppImages need FUSE 2, which newer Ubuntu releases don't install by default.
The .deb says dependencies are missing
Install it with apt rather than double-clicking, so the dependencies come with it:
First launch & speed
The first launch is stuck downloading
On first launch Maylyn downloads a local AI model — 2 to 5 GB, once. On a slow connection that can take a while.
- Leave Maylyn open and the computer awake until it finishes.
- If the progress stops for a long time, close Maylyn completely and open it again to retry.
Replies are very slow
Usually the model can't use your graphics card, or something else is using it.
- Close games, video editors and other AI or image tools — they hold on to graphics memory.
- Pick a smaller, faster model in Settings.
- Long answers simply take longer — ask for a short reply to compare.
Generating images and especially music is much slower without a supported graphics card — a short music clip can take minutes.
The Hub, Packs & your phone
I signed in at hub.maylyn.cloud but can't chat
The Hub doesn't run an AI model or touch anyone's files — it connects you to your own computer. A step-by-step guide opens the first time you sign in, and you can reopen it from Settings → Re-run setup. In short:
- Install Maylyn on your computer (download).
- Sign in there with the same email you used on the Hub.
- In Maylyn on your computer: Settings → Account → Your computers → Connect to Hub.
- Back on the Hub, pick your computer.
My computer shows a connection error on the Hub
The Hub can only reach a computer that's switched on, awake, and running Maylyn. It never falls back to another computer or the cloud.
- Wake the computer and make sure Maylyn is open and signed in.
- If it still fails, press Connect to Hub again in Settings → Account on that computer.
How do I use Maylyn from my phone?
There's no app to install. Connect your computer to the Hub (above), then open hub.maylyn.cloud on your phone, sign in, and pick your computer. Add it to your home screen for one-tap access.
Still stuck?
How do I report a problem so it gets fixed fast?
Open an issue on GitHub or ask on Discord, and include:
- Your system (Windows 11, macOS 15, Ubuntu 24.04…) and which file you downloaded.
- Maylyn's version — it's shown in small text under the message box.
- What you clicked, and the exact message or a screenshot.
- The last lines of the log, if Maylyn starts at all (check it for anything private first).
Where are Maylyn's logs and data?
Everything lives in a .maylyn folder in your home folder; the log is maylyn.log inside it.
I use the CLI — is there a self-check?
Yes. maylyn vet checks the install and repairs what it can (it also runs on every launch). maylyn status lists hung, orphaned or GPU-hogging processes.
